Dalby Extension Project/Lynwood gas station submission guide

Arrow Energy is seeking approval from the Queensland government for a new coal seam gas compressor facility, with its own dedicated gas-fired power station and flare complex, known as Lynwood. It is part of its 1,324 gas well Dalby Expansion Project (DXP), which forms part of the wider 6,500 gas well Surat Gas Project (SGP).  This facility will burn and flare gas and produce noise and noxious air pollution less than 9 km from the town of Cecil Plains and its 400 people. Arrow already has approval for two of these large polluting compressor stations but wants now to build a third one, of much larger capacity.

A recent report on health impacts from gas facilities in Australia shows a vast array of chemicals are released into the air during all steps of the process, including volatile organic compounds, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, radioactive materials, diesel fumes, hydrogen sulfide, acrolein and heavy metals. A cocktail of additional chemicals form in the atmosphere, including formaldehyde, particulate matter from aerosols and ground level ozone, which travel long distances damaging health and agriculture.

Each step of the gas production process also increases the chance of chemical contamination of surface and ground water resources.
